Jawhar, Palghar Dist., Maharashtra, India.
These are the top places to visit in Jawhar.
- Dabhosa waterfalls
- Jai Vilas Palace
- Kalmandavi waterfalls
- Hanuman point.
Of which Jai Vilas Palace and Hanuman point are close to each other in Jawhar while Dabhosa and Kalmandavi waterfalls are located at the distance of about 20km and 7km respectively from Jai Vilas Palace. If you are coming to Jawhar from Mumbai-Manor route(Which I recommend, as Bhivandi route is bad and unsafe) Jai Vilas Palace will be the first. The entrance towards Jai Vilas Palace is obscure, so you need to keep google maps handy and you might also need to ask the locals about the way towards exact location. Watch the video to know the exact entrance: https://youtu.be/YFDcnU59QXc?t=2m36s
Jai Vilas Palace is also incorrectly famous as Jawhar fort among most of the people. It was actually a residential palace.
Map below shows the accurate location of all the four places.
Before you reach Jawhar you will come across this view
At about 20km from main town of Jawhar, through rough road will get to the infamous Dabhosa waterfalls. There is Nature Trails Resort near Dabhosa which conducts various adventure activities (Rappelling, Valley Crossing through the glorious waterfall, Trekking, kayaking, cliff jumping) and also have accommodation facilities besides the waterfall giving excellent view : http://www.naturetrails.in/dabhosa-waterfall-resort/
Here are some pictures I took from my September visit this year.
Jai Vilas Palace
Jai Vilas Palace was built at around 1940s by Raja Yashwant Rao Mukane. This palace is also known as Raj Bari and used to be a residential palace of the Munke royal family.
The palace is absolutely stunning. Cameras are not allowed inside unfortunately. If somebody challenged me live in the palace alone I would deny it. It's really creepy palace. The back of the palace is where beauty lies. Since the palace is on top of a hill on the edge, the view looking down from behind the palace is absolutely stunning. Here are few pictures:
Kalmandavi Waterfalls and Hanuman point will be updated before the end of this month.
Mokhada is a taluka neighbouring Jawhar taluka which has recently been scouted by paragliding professionals from Virar, Space Apple and announced to be their new site for paragliding. The location is near Wagh Dam. With the permission being granted by local authorities, Space Apple will be conducting paragliding courses from January 2018.
